Мистер Смит: Я знаю вас уже много лет, но это для меня новость. Собираетесь куда-нибудь?

Мистер Браун: Пока что мы не определились. Видишь ли, мы были в Европе много раз. Поэтому я бы хотел поехать в Китай или в Японию. Но Пёрл еще не была в Париже на Порше. Это настоящая проблема!

Mr. Smith: Hi, John. You have bought a new car, haven’t you?

Mr. Brown: Yes. Have you seen it?

Mr. Smith: Not yet. Mark told me about it. He says your car is smart.

Mr. Brown: Perhaps. I have always wanted to buy a smart car.

Mr. Smith: There are three cars parked in the yard: a Mercedes, a Jaguar and a Fiat. Which one is yours?

Mr. Brown: None of them. Mine is in the garage. We have a Porsche. Oh, Fill, I have never driven a Porsche before!

Mr. Smith: I wonder if your wife has learned to drive.

Mr. Brown: Sure. She did it last year. She’s crazy about cars. Pearl has always wanted to travel about Europe in the car.

Mr. Smith: I have known you for ages but that’s the news to me. Are you going anywhere?

Mr. Brown: So far we are of two minds. We have been to Europe a lot of times. So I’d like to go to China or Japan. But Pearl hasn’t been to Paris in a Porsche yet. It’s a real problem now!

Роберт: Поторопись. Боюсь, мы опаздываем.

Звонит телефон.

Джейн: Боже, ещё и телефон. Алло. Это ты, Мэри?!

Роберт: О, Джейн, у меня нет слов.

Robert: Hello, Jane.

Jane: Hello, Robert. It is nice to see you. Come in, please.

Robert: Look here, Jane, there is a concert at our club tonight. You are sure to like it. What about going there together?

Jane: I’m afraid I can’t. I’m making a new blouse. I want to wear it at Mum’s birthday party this Sunday.

Robert: We haven’t gone out for ages. Besides it’s a pity to stay at home on such a fine day.

Jane: You are right. I have four days left, I’ll manage it. But will you help me before we go?

Robert: Sure. What is it, Jane?

Jane: Something has gone wrong with my iron. Can you put it right?

Robert: Let me have a look at it. Well, there’s nothing the matter with the iron. I think it’s the plug.

Jane: Can you repair it?

Robert: It’s nothing. But you, please, be quick.

Jane: Ok. I’ll be back in no time. I’ll go out to change.

Robert: (repairs the plug) Here you are.

Jane: How clever of you! Thank you very much!

Robert: Are you ready to go?

Jane: As you see. But just a moment, I’ll leave a note for my mother and switch off the light.

Robert: Hurry up then. I am afraid we are going to be late.

The telephone rings.

Jane: Dear me! This telephone… Hello. Is that you, Mary?!

Robert: Oh, Jane, words fail me.
