"ABC Festival"
Праздник на английском языке для учащихся младшей школы
Развитие творческих способностей, создание условий для самовыражения и самореализации детей – одно из важнейших направлений современного языкового образования. Для учителей Центра образования это не просто слова, а часть нашей школьной жизни.
Коммуникативная направленность программы по английскому языку (мы выбрали УМК Никитенко З.Н. для изучения английского языка в младшей школе) позволяет быстро сформировать навыки говорения и, как следствие, желание детей поделиться радостью общения на иностранном языке с близкими людьми.
Элементы детского страноведения: стихи, песни, считалки, игры, сказки, присутствуют на каждом уроке. Представляете, как хочется ребенку загадать маме загадки о животных, которые живут в далекой Австралии, спеть песенку о зимородке-хохотуне или рассказать о Диснейленде, да еще на английском языке?
Часто на уроках мы читаем по ролям и инсценируем сказки. Здорово получается, весело! “Жаль, что никто не видит!” – подумали ученики 3-го класса и подготовили постановку небольшой сказки “Мышкин хвостик” (учебник для 3-го класса Никитенко З.Н.) для учеников вторых классов. Первый успех вскружил нам голову. Дети-то все талантливые оказались! Но вот незадача: выступать хотелось, практически, всем ученикам младшей школы. Так появилась идея организовать ежегодный праздник “ABC Festival” – спектакль на английском языке для учащихся, их родителей, родственников и учителей нашего Центра образования, в котором принимают участие все ученики младших классов.
Готовимся к празднику всем миром: даже родители охотно помогают своим детям работать над ролью, входить в образ, шить костюмы.
Сценарий пишут учителя английского языка, используя программный материал, потому что праздник, как итоговый зачет, показывает, что ученики усваивают программу целиком и роли свои учат осмысленно и эмоционально, т.к. изучаемый материал приобретает для детей личностный смысл и уровень языковой подготовки позволяет сосредоточиться на актерском мастерстве.
Конечно, были и трудности. Например, приходилось писать роли индивидуально под каждого ученика 3-го класса, учитывая личностные особенности детей, потому что выступить хотелось каждому. Почти все эпизоды сопровождались музыкальными номерами: песнями и танцами, поэтому много времени уделялось репетициям.
Зато результаты превзошли ожидания: праздник совместного творчества учеников, учителей и родителей состоялся и стал традиционным для нашего Центра образования.
Нам хотелось бы поделиться своим опытом и предложить вашему вниманию один из сценариев “ABC Festival”.

Host: Ladies and gentlemen! Good afternoon!
Hostess: Dear parents, teachers, boys and girls! We are very glad to see you at our ABC festival! Thank you for your coming.
Little Red Riding Hood appears in front of the curtain from the left. She is crying bitterly.
Host: Look, Nastya! Who is she? (He goes up to LRRH)
Hostess: Why are you crying, poor little thing? (She goes up to LRRH too.)
LRRH: My name is Red Riding Hood. (LRRH stops crying and turns to the audience.) What a silly question! (ironically) Don’t you see my beautiful red cape with a hood? (LRRH continues crying.) But I’m crying because I lost my way to my Granny’s house.
Host: Calm down, please! Little Red Riding Hood, don’t cry! The pupils of our school are going to start our performance “ABC Festival”. In fact we are very busy now, we shall help you later, OK?
LRRH: No! I hate being alone. You must help me! I have to make my way through the magic forest to find my Granny’ house! I’m afraid of the Big Bad Wolf! I need friends so much!
Hostess: Be quiet, please! Don’t you see how many guests are at our school today.
LRRH: (thinks for a while) If you help me to find my Granny, I’ll stop crying. I promise!
Hostess: All right! Where does your Granny live?
LRRH: She lives in the country very far away. You know, (steps forward)
Some people live in the country,
Where the houses are very small.
Some people live in the city,
Where the houses are very tall.
But in the country where the houses are very small
The gardens are very big,
And in the city where the houses are very tall
There are no gardens at all.
Host: (ironically) Where do you li-i-ve? We know this poem by Edith Segal. It’s from our school program. (angrily) Be attentive, LRRH, please! Where does your Granny live?
LRRH: I don’t know exactly, but somewhere in the magic forest, I suppose.
Hostess: All right! We shall try to help you to find the way to your Granny’ house.
Host: By the way, where is your magic forest?
LRRH: I suspect – (in a whisper) all around.
Host: What a strange idea! There is a secret, I think. All right! Dear guests! While we are looking into the magic forest, the pupils of the second form are ready to introduce all the letters of the English alphabet to you.
Hostess: You are welcome, Letters!
SCENE 2
The pupils of the second Form go to the stage. They are holding the slogans with the letters and singing the song “The ABC”.
Letter A: A is for Apples and Apple-trees.
You can see apples on apple-trees.
Letter B: B is for Books and for Bookcase.
I have many books in my bookcase.
Letter C: C is for Cat. My cat is grey,
And with me it likes to play.
Letter D: D is for Dog and for Doggy.
I have a dog, not a doggy.
Letter E: E is for Eight and for Eleven.
How much is eight and eleven?
Letter F: F is for Flowers: red and blue,
White and yellow and rosy, too.
Letter G: G is for Girl, and also for Garden.
I see a girl going to the garden.
Letter H: H is for Hand. I have two hands.
This is the way I clap my hands.
Letter I: I is for I. I am a boy, I am eight.
I like to play with my sister Kate.
Letter J: J is for Jam. This is apple jam.
Jimmy likes it, and so does Sam.
Letter K: K is for Kite. Kate has a kite.
It is little, and it is white.
Letter L: L is for Letter. This letter is for me.
It is from my sister, as you can see.
Letter M: M is for May and for May Day,
For March and for Mother’s Day.
Letter N: N is for Nine, Ninety and Ninety-nine.
Children, how much is ninety and nine?
Letter O: O is for One. One and two is three.
Three little cats are in a tree.
Letter P: P is for Pencils. With them I can draw:
A red pen, a green tree or a blue door.
Letter Q: Q is for Questions: How are you?
How old are you? And How do you do?
Letter R: R is for Red. Many things are red.
What can be red? Do you know, Fred?
Letter S: S is for Street. This is my street.
There are a lot of trees in my street.
Letter T: T is for Tick and for Tock.
“Tick-tock”, says the clock.
Letter U: U is for Under, but not for At.
“I am under the tree”, says Pat.
Letter V: V is in Five and also in Seven,
It is in Twelve and in Eleven.
Letter W: W is for Winter when it is cold.
But I like winter and I like cold.
Letter X: X is in Six. Lets count up to six!
One, two, three, four, five, six!
Letter Y: Y is for a Yard where children play.
They play in the yard every day.
Letter Z: Z is for the Zoo. Lets go to the Zoo.
I like to go to the Zoo. And you?
Letter W: We can read,
We can write,
We can speak English, too.
We love learning English!
And what about you?
Host, Hostess and Little Red Riding Hood appear from the left.
LRRH: Oh, my Goodness! (greatly excited) They are such talented kids!
Host: Sure, LRRH! (in delight) Last year they learnt the Russian letters and started reading and writing in Russian. This year the pupils of the second Form learnt the English letters and began to read and write in English.
Hostess: Actually, the children are still so small! So the pupils of the third Form want to give them very important and useful instructions about our school life.
Host: Yes! Now we shall teach you some rules and good manners!
The pupils of the 3rd Form appear from the right.
Speaking in a strict voice.
Pupil 1: Don’t run across the road! Stop and look!
Pupil 2: Don’t write on the wall! Write in your notebook!
Pupil 3: Don’t run in school! Always walk!
Pupil 4: Listen to the teacher! Please, don’t talk!
Letters: (all together) Oh! (sadly)
Traffic Officer appears from the left, stops in the middle of the stage.
Traffic Officer: Morning! (in a louder voice) I am a Traffic Officer!
All these cars and trucks
That are running along
Can be stopped by the man,
Who’s enormously strong!
Letters: (all together) Ah! (in surprise)
Traffic Officer: Listen to me, dear kids!
Be very, very careful
When you cross the street.
Use your eyes and use your ears,
And then use your feet.
Look to the left,
Look to the right,
Then look up and check the light.
When all the cars stop
It’s time for you to go.
Walk between the lines
That’s the safest way. I know!
Traffic Officer goes off. The pupils of the 3rd Form continue (importantly).
Pupil 5: Yes, kids, learn your lessons
As well as you can!
Be tidy like Tom,
Not dirty like Dan!
Letters: (all together) Oh! (sadly)
Pupil 6: You may clean the ceiling
You may sweep the floor
And when you grow bigger
I’ll teach you to do more!
Letter E: Excuse me! And may we teach you good manners?
Letter P: Please, be polite!
Let us try to be polite
In everything we do
Remember always to say “Please”
And don’t forget “Thank you!”
Letter S: I am sorry! We are not small! (angrily)
Host, Hostess and the pupils of the 3rd Form shrug their shoulders (in surprise) and go off.
The pupils of the 2nd Form (Letters) sing a song “I am Not Small!”
Letters: (all together) I am not small, I am so tall,
I can carry a tree on my back.
When it grows, I grow too,

Host: Thank you, kids! That is true – they are not small! I know someone who is smaller.
Hostess: Yes, we have got a surprise! Boys and girls from the 1st Form dont know English letters, but they love learning English too! Do you know why?
Host: Yes, of course! They have got the best teacher in the world – Professor Book! Do you want to have a look?
Hostess: Sure! But not now. We must help our Little Red Riding Hood. She is in the magic forest. (there is noise from behind) Do you hear a loud noise? Hurry up!
Everybody goes off.
Curtains close.
SCENE 3
Curtains open.
Place: a clearing in the forest where the Three Little Pigs are fighting and shouting. They are arguing about something very loudly.
Pig 1: My house is the best one!
Pig 2: No, no, mine!
Pig 3: No, my house is the strongest!
LRRH: Hello, pigs! I hope you know my name. Do you see my beautiful red cape with a hood?
The three little pigs are shrugging their shoulders.
LRRH: Yes, you are right! I’m Little Red Riding Hood.
Pig 1: Naf-Naf.
Pig 2: Nif-Nif.
Pig 3: Noof-Noof.
Pig 1, Pig 2, Pig 3: (all together) Little Red Riding Hood, can you help us?
LRRH: How can I help you?
Pig 1: We want to hide from the Big Bad Wolf!
Pig 2: We want to build a house!
Pig 1: Yes, yes, out of hay!
Pig 2: No, no, out of twigs!
Pig 3: Yes, no, yes, no…out of bricks!
LRRH: Stop screaming! Don’t argue! Tell me your story from the very beginning!
The children are singing a song “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” in chorus. The Three Little Pigs are dancing around their houses imitating the actions: the first pig is blowing the flute and decorating his house with hay, the second pig is playing his fiddle, dancing and using some twigs to build his house, the third little pig looks very serious – he is busy: he is putting bricks on each other without paying any attention to his lazy brothers.

Pig 1: Oh, Little Red Riding Hood! Thank you very much!
Pig 2: You are so clever!
Pig 3: You are so kind!
LRRH: Don’t mention it, Little Pigs! And will you help me? I lost my way to my Granny. She lives on the other side of the forest.
Pig 1: Yes, we know where it is!
Pig 2: Can you see these trees?
LRRH: Yes, I can.
Pig 2: Go this way, then to the left, then to the right.
LRRH: Thank you, Little Pigs! Good bye!
Pig 1: Bye, Little Red Riding Hood!

L.R.R.H. appears from the left. She is humming the song “Who’s Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf?”
Host and Hostess appear from the right.
Host: Don’t you see Little Red Riding Hood?
Hostess: Yes, here you are! She is skipping and humming a happy tune!
Host: I cannot understand these fairytale characters! (He turns to LRRH) Little Red Riding Hood, you escaped and did not wait for us! Why?
LRRH: I’m very glad to see you again. This magic forest is full of wonders and characters from different fairy tales! I like it very much!
Curtains open.
Leo Cat is standing in the middle of the stage.
LRRH: Look, kids! Do you know his name? (turns to the audience)
Kids: Yes! Leo Cat!
Leo Cat: Good afternoon! I am famous Leo Cat!
I am strong and very nice
I like children, they are nice,
But I’m tired of grey mice!
The mice run out from behind the curtains and start screaming loudly in a squeaky voice.
Leo Cat: (pointing to the mice)
I think that mice
Are not very nice!
Their tails are long,
Their faces are small,
They haven’t got any chins at all.
Their ears are pink,
Their teeth are white,
They run about the house at night.
They nibble things
They shouldn’t touch
And no one likes them very much!
Oh! I think that mice
Are not very nice!
Leo Cat stamps his foot: the mice run away in horror and hide behind the nearby trees.
Mice: Help! Help!
LRRH: Oh! Leo, glad to see you!
Leo Cat: Hello, LRRH! Glad to see you too!
LRRH: Leo! Frankly speaking, you don’t look very well today. I don’t see that you are strong and fat and handsome as usual! I think you should do morning exercises every day to look better.
Leo Cat: Really? Do you think so?
Host: LRRH! I know the best in the world morning exercise from Carlson’s Granny. We do it at our English lessons. Kids, mice, help us, please, to teach Leo! Let’s do it all together! Stand up, please! Everybody is ready to do morning exercise.
All together: Hands on the table,
Hands on the hips,
Hands on the shoulders,
Hands like this!
Hands behind the back
Hands up and down,
Hands under the table
And sit down!
LRRH: Yes, Leo Cat! (in delight) You look better. Now you are a really strong, fat and handsome cat!
Leo Cat: Thank you, kids! Thank you, mice! Let’s live in peace and friendship!

SCENE 4
Curtains open.
Place: Malish and Frecken Bock are sitting at the table in the kitchen, while Carlson is under the table. Malish is trying to get a bun but every time he reaches for it Frecken Bock hits him on the fingers so he has to withdraw his hand. At the same time Carlson who is hiding under the table, steals the buns and puts them into his pocket.
Frecken Bock: (angrily) Buns are not good for little boys! Go to your room and do your homework! Do it, be quick, you, naughty boy!
Malish: But I did it!
Frecken Bock: Then go to the bathroom, wash your face and hands!
Malish: But I washed them!
Frecken Bock: Don’t argue with me! Brush your teeth and go to bed!
Malish: But, dear Frecken Bock, it’s daytime! I don’t want to sleep! I’m not a little one, I’m big!
Frecken Bock: Do as I say! Faster! Make your bed, water the plants and stay in your room!
On saying this Frecken Bock steps on Carlson’s foot, he screams with pain and rolls out from under the table.
Carlson: Hooray, Frecken Bock found Carlson! Frecken Bock, now it’s your turn to hide!
Carlson starts running around the stage. He turns on his propeller and shouts: “Trrr!”
Carlson: Frecken Bock and I like playing hide-and-seek!!! We are friends! And I can get as many buns as I want!
Carlson falls to his knees before Frecken Bock.
Carlson: (passionately) Madam, may I kiss your hand? (falling upon one knee)
Frecken Bock drops everything she has onto the floor. She turns red because she is on the point of losing her temper.
Frecken Bock: What?!! Now I understand why all the buns disappeared and where they are now!
Carlson: Yes! It’s time to check if we have some more buns in the kitchen!
Frecken Bock: No!!! It’s time for you to get out of my kitchen! You ate more than a dozen of buns! Go and don’t come back without buns!
Frecken Bock turns Carlson and Malish out of the kitchen by hitting them with a towel.
Curtains close.
Malish and Carlson are sitting on the steps in front of the curtains.
Carlson: Malish! I hope you don’t think that it’s me who ate all the buns?
Malish: Yes, Carlson, I do think so!
Carlson: You see, Malish, I don’t eat that much! Look here: one bun fell on the floor, three buns were not tasty at all!!! (with indignation) Then I put four buns in my pocket for my lovely Granny… and nine buns were gobbled by you!
Malish: No, no! I didn’t …
Carlson: Yes, you did! In all – eight buns!
Malish: Carlson, I think you need to learn how to count!
Carlson: But I’m the best math teacher in the world! It’s me who can teach you A-A-A…
Malish: Addition!
Carlson: (with a shout of triumph) Yes! Exactly!
Malish: Actually, you need to go to school to the first form to learn how to count.
Carlson: (with a deep sigh of disappointment) May be you are right… Why are you so sad, Malish?
Malish: (sadly) Because Frecken Bock says that we can’t come back home without buns!
Carlson: Don’t worry, Malish! I know a place where we can get a thousand of buns! Let’s go!
Curtains open.
Place: Baker’s Shop.
Malish, Carlson, two bakers with a slogan “In The Baker’s Shop”, five girls-buns sitting under the slogan, five boys standing in a queue and waiting for a bun.
Malish: (coming up to the bakers) Oh! Thank God! Can I get one bun, please? How much is it?
Baker 1: It’s ten pence! But you cannot get it!
Malish: Why?
Baker 2: (pointing to the audience) Look how many people are here!
Baker 1: Everybody wants a bun!
Baker 2: Go and stand in the queue!
Baker 1: Wait your turn, please!
With these words the children of the third form start singing a song “Five Currant Buns”. Every time when the pupils sing the line “Along came a boy with a penny one day…”, one of the boys waiting in a queue takes a girl-bun by the hand, pats himself on the tummy saying: “Yummy!” and when the children finish the line “Bought a currant bun and took it away!” runs away from the stage together with his “bun”.

LRRH: (coquettishly) Excuse me! Any problems?
Malish: Yes! I need some buns for Frecken Bock so I can come back home!
Carlson: Yes! I need to go to school to learn how to count!
LRRH: It’s not a problem! I’ve got a basket full of buns specially for your lovely Frecken Bock!!! Don’t cry, Malish!
Hostess: Carlson! Do you really want to learn to count?
Carlson: Yes!
Host: Then, Carlson, follow us! We are just in a hurry not to miss the lesson of the best teacher in the world – Professor Book, the teacher of the first form in our school!
Everybody goes off.
