Victory Day

WE WILL NEVER FORGET...

Victory Day is a great holiday not only in Russia, but in many countries of the world. On this day millions of people celebrate the victory over the German fascists in 1945. More than 250, 000 soldiers and officers from Bashkortostan were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Among them we know pilot Musa Gareyev, twice hero of the Soviet Union, the heroes of the Soviet Union: Alexander Matrosov and Minligali Gubaidullin, and the Black general Daian Murzin, and others. There are monuments to them in the Park of Victory in Ufa. The monument has become a sacred place for the citizens of Ufa and our republic. Thousands of people visit the monument and put flowers by it. The soldiers give the salute on Victory Day, the 9th of May. Their names are remembered and legends memorialized.

There are not only legends told about them, historical novels are devoted to them, performances and films are created, numerous articles and sketches are published in Bashkortostan and Russia. The famous Soviet writer Konstantin Simonov said, “we, living people, have many rights. We have the right to work in the name of our Motherland, and the right to defend it, the right to love, the right to be happy. But we have no right to forget what our comrades did in the name of Victory, in the name of Motherland, in the name of life on Earth.”

May 9, 1945 was a historic day which hundreds of millions of people all over the world had waited for.

Our people withstood. And our wish to all people is to live in peace, take care of peace, be happy.

WE WILL RETURN WITH A LEGEND

I would like to tell you about M. Gubaidullin and his deeds. He was born on the 8th of March, 1923, in Meyaki district.

At the age of 16 he went to Baku, where he worked at one of the oil-works. From the first day of the Great Patriotic War, millions of young men and adults, even young girls, voluntarily went to the front to defend our Motherland from the fascist invaders. When the Great Patriotic War began Gubaidullin went to the district military Commissar at once and declared his wish immediately to set out for the front. Instead of the front he was sent to the military school which was preparing commanders of machine-gun platoons. He quickly mastered the machine-gun “Maksim” and learned to shoot well. In 1942, after finishing military school, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant and was sent to the Northern Caucasian Front.

In March, 1943, Minlegali Gubaidullin, was awarded the Order of the Red Star for his heroic deeds. On the bank of the Dnepr the machine-gunners of Lieutenant Gubaidullin fought bravely. For his heroic deeds he was awarded the Order of the Motherland for the second time. After crossing the Dnepr, his regiment attacked the village of Dudchano which was situated in the valley between the hills. The way to the village was covered with the hills where the German fascists had built dug-outs and pill-boxes. It was impossible to capture the hill at once. To attack the hill without artillery fire meant to lose a great number of soldiers and officers. On the 8th of March, 1944, on his birthday, early in the morning Gubaidullin’s soldiers began to storm the enemy’s pill-boxes.

The German’s three pill-boxes were destroyed, but one of them continued shooting. Gubaidullin remained alone and went on crawling towards it. He was wounded in his leg and felt that he was losing strength. He wanted to throw a grenade, but he had no strength to do it. Then he gathered all his might and ran up to the pill-box and covered it with his body.

The regiment attacked the fascist’s position and liberated the village in Dudchano. He was buried in Dudchano, later a monument to him was placed there. Minlegali Gubaidullin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. He was the second one who covered the fascists pill-boxes. The heroic deed of Alexander Matrosov was repeated by another Bashkort Komsomol member, Lieutenant M. Gubaidullin, a young fellow from a Bashkort village. Their deeds were repeated by hundred of soldiers and officers from different nations and countries. He lived only 21 years, he was killed on his birthday, on the 8th of March, 1944.
