We Are Together Through Years and Events
Once I had some spare time and saw that our school museum was open. The museum had been organized by students in 1968. I entered it and was surprised seeing exhibits about a young military man, Mikhail Petrovich Zhukov. I read his biography. There were some personal things and documents in the museum. I learned that Zhukov is a Hero of the Soviet Union and he died a young man during World War II. He gave his life for us.
Two years later, in 1970, students of our school founded the monument to Zhukov. We celebrate his birthday every year – to remember Zhukov and to keep him alive. Every year students have races on that day, sell hand-made things, and have fairs; and usually this day is sunny and always fun. This holiday is very popular in our school. It is the greatest event not only for our school, but also for residents of the street named after Zhukov. We make preparations beforehand. We organize concerts of songs, with dancing, playing tricks, etc. Hand-made things are especially dear to us. It might be vegetables, fruit, sweets, products from fabrics and many other things. Stalls are decorated with autumn leaves and nice signs. It looks so nice and unusual.
It seems to us that Mikhail Petrovich is with us and enjoys life. Our school is situated in the street named after him. A memorial plaque can be seen on the cinema Volga. A pilot’s helmet on his head and wings instead of arms remind us of his 66 heroic flights and 14 burnt fascists’ planes. He was killed in 1943, but he is alive in our hearts. We are proud that our school is a part of heroic history. Long live Mikhail Petrovich Zhukov! Long live the tradition to remember those who gave their lives for us.
P.S. Thanks to your competition I managed to read documents and lots of materials devoted to the pilot and the Hero of the Soviet Union M.P. Zhukov. This information is collected by students of my school. Welcome to our school museum and to our town.
Thank you for your competition and for your newspaper.
