The administrative centre of Ugra is the city of Khanty-Mansiysk located near the great Siberian rivers of Ob and Irtysh. The city of Khanty-Mansiysk is located on seven hills in the unique natural landscapes, where fir and cedar trees are preserved.
The district has rich deposits of oil and gas. Khanty-Mansi Autonomous area is dynamically the largest in Russia’s fuel and energy complex, it provides the bulk of the country’s oil, gas and electricity. It is the district of mined alluvial gold, quartz vein and collection materials, and discovery of brown and hard coal. There were deposits of iron ore, copper, zinc, lead, niobium, tantalum of bauxite.

Birds found in the region are goose, brant, gluhar, blackcock, hazel grouse, kuropatka, duck, kulik. The waters are inhabited by 42 species of fish, including high-value sturgeon, starlet, nelma, white salmon, chir (schokur), pelyad, syrok, whitefish (pyzhyan), sosvinskaya herring (tugun).
