Free Audio Books Online

Audio versions of public domain books. There are several options for listening. LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain and release the audio files back onto the net. There are 2,557 audiobooks in 26 languages. Hugh McGuire launched the volunteer-effort audiobook publishing model LibriVox on August 10th, 2005. Their goal is to make all public domain books available as free audio books.

This directory features free audio books, lectures, speeches, sermons, interviews, and many other great free audio and video resources. Most audio titles can be downloaded in digital formats such as MP3 and most video titles are available to stream online. Among their free content is a newsletter, articles and podcasts.

Free Creative Commons library of modern and classic literature (speeches, stories and poetry). Recordings at Telltale will be released free at Spoken Alexandria and elsewhere within 5 years of release at Telltale, thus continually building and funding a free audiobook library.

More than 50 classics in free audio form by a group of Santa Fe (New Mexico) local actors and technicians. Schools are welcome to make these audio books available to their students free. Begun in 2004, the titles include assorted classics as well as some modern literature and science fiction.

Dozens of free classics in mp3 format for iPods and MP3 players, some “human narrated” and some using “text to speech”.
