Language For Living

1. TOO/ENOUGH

READ

GRAMMAR

• Too means excessive, or unacceptable. Use it before adjectives.

EXAMPLES:

The box is too heavy. (I can’t lift it.)

I’m too old. (I can’t pick it up.)

• Enough means sufficient, or satisfying. Use it after adjectives.

EXAMPLES:

I’m not strong enough.

Vic’s strong enough. (He can do the work.)

An infinitive often follows an adjective with too or enough to show purpose.

EXAMPLES:

I’m too weak to move the box.

I’m not strong enough to pick it up.

Note: Do not use too or enough instead of very. Too and enough imply the idea of a following infinitive.

EXAMPLES:

He’s very strong.

He isn’t strong enough to pick up the box.

He’s too weak to pick up the box.
