Внеклассное мероприятие для 8-9-х классов (учебник "Happy English-II")
Цели: тренировать восприятие и понимание речи на слух с опорой на наглядность; формировать навыки самостоятельной работы с материалом; формировать умение составлять выступление; узнать больше о блюдах британской и американской кухни.
Оборудование: готовые продовольственные изделия, тостер, банка варенья и другие продукты.
Состав участников: игроки (представители от каждого класса), члены жюри, ведущий.

I. Рассказ ведущего
When invited to an American home...
Here are a few tips to help you know how to behave at an American dinner. First of all, you should always arrive on time. Even 15 minutes late is impolite! If you are going to be late, call your host or hostess ahead of time. It is also not polite to come early. It is always nice to bring your host or hostess something such as flowers, but it is not necessary.
When in the dining room, don’t take a seat until your host or hostess shows you where to sit. Unfold the napkin that is beside your plate, and put it on your lap. Plates and bowls of food are usually passed from person to person around the table. People serve themselves.
Before eating, someone may say grace, or a prayer. During grace you should bow your head and remain silent. You can start eating when the host or hostess does. In America, it is considered rude to begin eating before everyone has been served.

Take part in the conversation at the meal, but don’t talk with your mouth full. If someone asks you a question while your mouth is full, finish chewing before you answer the question.
Do not reach in front of someone for a dish, the salt, or the pepper. Simply say, “Please, pass the salt.”
Always compliment the cook by saying, “The meal is delicious/wonderful!” When dinner is over, help clear the dishes off the table. When you are leaving, thank your host or hostess by saying, “Thank you for a nice evening. I enjoyed it very much.”
Americans often send a thank-you note afterwards.

II. Do You Have Good Table Manners?
You’ll feel comfortable eating anywhere if you know these rules. Please read them and remember.
Napkin Manners
1. Open your napkin and put it on your lap.
2. When you leave the table during a meal, place your napkin on the chair, not on the table.
3. When the meal is over, pick up your napkin, wipe your mouth, and place it on the table to the left of your plate.
Fork and Knife Manners
1. Put food into your mouth with your fork and not with your knife. Never lick your knife. It’s dangerous!
2. Place your fork and knife on your plate while talking or when you are resting between bites.
3. Place your knife and fork on your plate crosswise when you have finished eating. Do not put them on the tablecloth.
Spoon Manners
1. After you stir your tea with a spoon, place it on the saucer.
Table Manners
1. Do not put your elbows on the table while you are eating.
2. Never talk with your mouth full.
3. When you are drinking with a straw, do not make a loud noise when you reach the end of your drink.
4. Only talk about nice things at the dinner table.
5. Finally, don’t forget to say, “Thank you.”

III. Об особенностях американской кухни
You’ll find restaurants for every situation in the US. If you are in a hurry, you may just want to grab some “junk food” at a grocery store or a candy counter, or you can get a bite to eat at one of the many fast food chains, like McDonald’s, Burger King or Kentucky Fried Chicken.
You can get a “hero” or “submarine” sandwich “to go” from a sandwich shop or deli. Some of these places have tables, but many don’t. People eat in their cars or take their food home, to their offices or to parks.
Coffee shops are usually less expensive and less dressy than fine restaurants. So are pizza places, pancake houses, sandwich shops and family restaurants.

How to Make a Hamburger
Ingredients: 0,5 kg minced beef, 1 large onion, sliced into thin rounds, 1 large tomato, sliced in rings, 8 hamburger buns.
Prepared mustard as needed
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Mix together:
1 tsp salad oil, 1,5 tsp tomato ketchup, 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper, 1 tsp salt, 1 egg
Method:
1. Mix salad oil mixture into minced beef.
2. Divide mixture into round ‘patties’ 8 cm (3 inches) in diameter and keep 1 hour.
3. Heat oil in large frying pan, tilting pan so that entire surface is coated. Fry hamburgers 4 at a time, cooking each side for 5 minutes. Remove and fry the remaining hamburgers in the same way.
4. Slit buns horizontally in half and heat in oven. Spread the bottom round of each bun with mustard, place one hamburger on it, and top with onion and tomato rings. Put a dollop of mustard on the hamburger and cover with top portion of bun. Prepare the remaining hamburgers the same way.

Recipe for a Birthday Cake
Ingredients: 1¾ cup cake flour, I cup sugar, 1/2 cup soft butter, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1¾ teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Method: put all the ingredients in a large bowl and beat well for two of three minutes. Bake in a cake pan for 30 minutes at 350°F.

Narrator: Small children are told that any house with a jack-o’-lantern burning in the window is a safe place to go trick-or-treating. The custom of trick-or-treating comes from when children dressed in costumes on All Souls’ Day and went from house to house begging for soul cakes. Children still go begging for treats. And now listen to the song “Treat”.

Narrator: And now I’d like to tell you about British food.
British Food
In London you’ll find food from all over the world. You’ll find Indian, Italian, French, and Chinese restaurants there.
Many restaurants offer a takeaway service: you order the food and take it away, cooked and ready to eat. The most popular takeaway restaurants are Italian (pizza), American-style hamburger bars and fish and chips shops. More and more, people buy hot food from a “takeaway” and eat it at home. This is quicker than cooking a meal and cheaper than eating in a restaurant. The most common takeaway food in Britain are fish and chips.

Fish and Chips
Ingredients: 1 teaspoon butter, 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon vinegar.
Fish and chips are a ready-cooked food. You can see how they fry it in the shop. They put fish in batter, made of flour and milk and fry it until the batter is crisp. The British eat fish and chips with salt and vinegar. The most popular fish is cod. This food is relatively cheap.
Chips are pieces of potatoes sliced very thin and fried. There are a lot of flavours: the most popular are cheese, onion, salt, vinegar.
