Happy Birthday, Mickey Mouse

Narrator 1: On November 18th Mickey Mouse celebrated his 80th anniversary. Ever-young Mickey Mouse is 80 years old. His life is full of adventures. He had to overcome lots of difficulties, rises and falls during his lifetime. And this is how his story might have started:

Scene 1

Появляются дети одетые как пассажиры. Звучит песня.

Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chatanooga Choo-Choo
Track twenty nine,
Boy, you can give me a shine,
I can afford
To board a Chatanooga Choo-Choo,
I’ve got my fare
And just a trifle to spare.
You leave the Pensylvania station ‘bout a quarter to four,
Read a magazine and then you’re in Baltimore,
Dinner in the diner,
Nothing could be finer
Than to have ham n’ eggs in Carolina,
When you hear the whistle blowing eight to the bar
Then you know that Tennessee is not very far,
Shovel all the coal in,
Gotta keep it rollin’
Woo, Woo, Chattanooga there you are.
There’s gonna be
A certain party at the station
Satin and lace
I used to call a funny face
She’s gonna cry
Until I tell her that I’ll never roam,
So Chattanooga Choo-Choo,
Won’t you choo-choo me home?

Setting: Train compartment

Characters:

Walt Disney
Mrs. Lillian Disney
Ub Iwerks (Disney’s friend, and cartoonist)

Walt: We have lost the rights to our Oswald rabbit. We need another character to replace him, or we’ll have nobody to make our shorts about. What creature can it be?

Lillian: Can it be another rabbit?

Walt: Surely not!

Ub: I have got some sketches of cats and dogs, even cows and horses! Have a look at them. Maybe, you will like some.

Walt: No dogs, no cats. There are so many of them in other cartoons: Felix the cat for example. And I don’t like the idea of cows and horses, though they look rather attractive and funny in your pictures.

Ub: Elephants are too big, bears are too clumsy, and rats are too ugly…

Walt: (задумчиво) Once I used to have a mouse as a pet. That was a long time ago. We lived in Kansas city in those days. My pretty old fellow was so cute… That’s it! I’ve got it! It will be a mouse.

Ub: (делая набросок мышонка) That will be a funny, playful, young fellow, a young lad…

Walt: Great! How shall we call him? He should have a good name to be easily remembered. It should sound good!

Ub: Martin? No… Josh? I don’t like it… John? Jeremy? David? No, no, no...

Walt: Mortimer! How do you like it? Mortimer. Grand and imposing!

Ub: It sounds great. Easy to be pronounced and quite sonorous.

Lillian: Oh no, boys. That is a poor name choice. It’s too complicated. The name should be quite simple and light. Call him Mickey. MICKEY MOUSE.

Narrator 1: That’s how Mickey Mouse might have appeared. The story is that the idea of Mickey Mouse came to Walter when he was traveling in a train to Hollywood.
Mickey debuted in the cartoon short “Plane Crazy on May 15, 1928. The plot of “Plane Crazy” was very simple. Mickey is trying to become an aviator. During the first flight Mickey loses control of the plane. This becomes the beginning of an out-of-control flight that results in a series of humorous situations and in the crash-landing of the aircraft.

Narrator 2: In those days films were silent and Mickey Mouse didn’t speak. Mickey Mouse cartoons were not popular with the public. There were too many cartoons with other animals, quite familiar to the audience. In 1927 the first sound film was released, and Walt Disney decided to make his cartoons with sound. That was “Steamboat Willie” with Mickey Mouse starring in it. The short was released on November 18, 1928. The public was impressed by the use of sound for comedy purposes. That was a great success. Since that time the date of releasing Steamboat Willie is considered the birthday of Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney himself was the voice actor for both Mickey and Minnie.

Narrator 1: And The Walt Disney Company celebrates Mickey’s birthday on November 18, upon the release of “Steamboat Willie”. In 1932, Disney received a special Academy Award for the creation of Mickey Mouse.

Narrator 2: So Mickey Mouse is eighty years old this year but is still young at heart and is fond of good jokes. He likes to get presents and to surprise his guests. Today many of his friends from Disney cartoons have come to congratulate him and give him their musical presents. Listen… Somebody is coming… Can you guess? Of course, these are three brave piglets. “The Three Little Pigs” cartoon was released in 1933. The cartoon ran in theaters for many months, and the song “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” became the hit of that period.

Дети исполняют песню.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

I build my house of straw
I build my house of hay
I toot my flute
I don’t give a hoot
And play around all day
I build my house of sticks
I build my house of twigs
With a hey-diddle-diddle
I play on my fiddle
And dance all kinds of jigs
I build my house of stone
I build my house of bricks
I have no chance
To sing and dance
‘Cause work and play don’t mix
He don’t take no time to play
Time to play, time to play
All he does is work all day
Work all day.
You can play and laugh and fiddle
Don’t think you can make me sore
I’ll be safe and you’ll be sorry
When the wolf comes through your door
Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf?
Big, bad wolf? Big, bad wolf?
Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf?
Tra-la-la-la-la

(Knock, knock.)

PIGS: Who’s there?

WOLF: I’m a poor little sheep with no place to sleep. Please open the door and let me in.

PIGS: Not by the hair of our chinny-chin-chin. You can’t fool us with that old sheep skin!

WOLF: I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house in!

Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf?
Big, bad wolf?
Big, bad wolf?
Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf?
Tra-la-la-la-la

Narrator 1: And now listen!

Звучит песня “Heigh-ho”.

Narrator 1: Can you guess who is coming?

Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho,
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho,
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho,
It’s home from work we go
[Whistle] Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho

Narrator 1: These are seven dwarfs from the first full-length animation film which was released in 1936. This film brought Disney one big and seven small Oscars.

Появляются семь гномов, которые, пританцовывая, поют песню из мультфильма.

The Silly Song

Happy:

I’d like to dance and tap my feet
But they won’t keep in rhythm
You see, I washed them both today
And I can’t do nothing with ‘em

All dwarfts:

Ho hum the tune is dumb
The words don’t mean a thing
Isn’t this a silly song
For anyone to sing?

Bashful:

I chased a polecat up a tree
Way out on upon a limb
And when he got the best of me
I got the worst of him.

All dwarfts:

Ho hum the tune is dumb
The words don’t mean a thing
Isn’t this a silly song
For anyone to sing?

Narrator 2: A lot of films about princesses were made by Walt Disney and his Company. Just remember them: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid… They have come to our party.

Появляются принцессы и поют, танцуя вальс.

Once Upon a Dream

I know you
I walked with you once upon a dream.
I know you
The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yes, I know it’s true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you’ll do
You’ll love me at once the way you did once upon a dream

Narrator 1: Another guest and another story. Who is the best nanny in the world? Surely Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way. She is not only pretty, she is quite witty. Can you say her famous word? Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious? Just try…

Появляется Мэри Попинс с Бертом. Они исполняют песню из фильма.

Because I was afraid to speak when I was just a lad
Me father gave me nose a tweak and told me I was bad
But then one day I learned a word that saved me aching nose
The biggest word you ever heard and this is how it goes
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Even though the sound of it is simply quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough, you’ll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Um diddle um diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle um diddle um diddle ay
He traveled all around the world and everywhere he went
He used the word and all would say
“There goes a clever gent”
When dukes and maharajas passed a time of day with me
I’d say a simple word and they would ask me out to tea.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Even though the sound of it is simply quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough, you’ll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Um diddle um diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle um diddle um diddle ay
So when the cat has got your tongue, there’s no need for dismay.
Just summon up this word and then you’ve got a lot to say.
But better use it carefully or it could change your life
“I once just said it to me girl, and now me girl me wife”
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Even though the sound of it is simply quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough, you’ll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Narrator 2: Another film, another guest. He thinks he is the wooden best. Can you guess who sings songs so funny and enthusiastically? Of course, it is Pinocchio.

Появляется Пиноккио и исполняет свою песню.

Little Wooden Head (I’ve got no strings)

Little wooden head go play your part
Bring a little joy to every heart
Little do you know and yet it’s true
That I’m mighty proud of you
Little wooden feet and best of all
Little wooden seat in case you fall
(Oh-ho! How graceful!)
My little wooden head

Narrator 1: And the girl you will see in a minute is familiar to you. Her name is Alice. She had lots of adventures in Wonderland.

Появляется Алиса в сопровождении «цветов» и исполняет песню, а цветы исполняют танец. Алиса преподносит Микки букет цветов.

In the Golden Afternoon

Little bread-and-butterflies kiss the tulips
And the sun is like a toy balloon
There are get-up-in-the-morning glories
In the golden afternoon
There are dizzy daffodils on the hillside
Strings of violets are all in tune
Tiger lilies love the dandelions
In the golden afternoon
There are dog and caterpillars and a copper centipede
Where the lazy daisies love the very peaceful life
They lead...
You can learn a lot of things from the flowers
For especially in the month of June
There’s a wealth of happiness and romance
All in the golden afternoon
All in the golden afternoon, the golden afternoon

Narrator 2: It’s a lovely birthday party. Other guests and another music present.

Появляются две собаки из мультфильма Леди и Бродяга, исполняют песню.

Bella Notte

Oh, this is the night, it’s a beautiful night
And we call it bella notte
Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes
On this lovely bella notte.
Side by side with your loved one
You’ll find enchantment here
The night will weave its magic spell
When the one you love is near
For this is the night
And the heavens are right
On this lovely bella notte
This is the nightIt’s a beautiful night
And we call it bella notte
Look at the skies
They have stars in their eyes
On this lovely belle notte

Narrator 1: It is a tradition in many countries to give the person a birthday cake and sing him a song-congratulation. Now it’s time to do so.

Микки преподносят пирог с 80 свечками. Весь зал поздравляет его песней:

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday, dear Mickey
Happy birthday to you.
