Reading for Fun
There are 14 verbs in the poem which are not used in the present continuous: love, want, need, remember, like, know, depend, mean, understand, hate, admire, believe, prefer, mean.
Love Story
I love you very much,
I want you to be happy,
I need you all the time,
I’ll remember you all my life!
I know you don’t like me,
You prefer another man,
But my feeling doesn’t depend on my will,
Everyone can understand what I mean.
Thank God, you don’t hate me,
Thank God, I can admire you from afar,
But I believe one day you’ll change your mind and love me!
Be so kind!
THINGS AND VERBS IN THE KITCHEN
We cook and prepare food every day,
We fry and boil, we grill and bake,
We usually have meals many times a day,
When tomorrow comes, we’ll repeat it again.
We’d like to bake some cakes,
Are there any eggs?
We’d like to make a sandwich,
Is there any ketchup?
We’d like to cook some honey pie,
What do we need to buy? But...
Is there any money to buy a little honey?
We’d like to make a tart,
Let’s check what we have got,
Is there any milk?
Is there any butter?
Is there any flour?
It’s a pity! There isn’t any more!
DAYS OF THE WEEK
I go shopping on Monday,
I do the cooking on Tuesday,
I do the washing on Wednesday,
I do the ironing on Thursday,
I clean the flat on Friday,
By the end of the week I am tired.
I have a rest on Saturday and Sunday
And I am good and full of life by next Monday.
PREPOSITIONS
We have different prepositions
For direction and position,
Read these chants to remember them all,
With the chants it isn’t difficult at all!
“On”
On the wall and on the floor,
On the ceiling and on the door,
On the island and on the river,
On the road and on the beach.
On the nose and on the head,
On the table and on the plate,
On the train and on the plane,
On the horse and on the way.
On the right and on the left...
I’m tired, I’d like to rest!
But you go on with prepositions of place: “at”!
“At”
At the bottom, at the top,
At the blackboard, at the door,
At the beginning, at the end,
At the party, at the concert.
At school, at home, and at work,
At the bus stop and at the airport,
At the corner of the street,
At the bank and at the chemist.
At the club and at one’s place,
“At” itself is at its best!
But I’m sorry, I must dash,
Remember at least some of the places!
