St. Valentine’s Day Festival of Love and Affection
Работая творчески и постоянно находясь в поиске наиболее эффективных форм работы, учителя иностранного языка, помимо реализации всех комплексных целей современного урока (практической, образовательной, воспитательной и развивающей) стараются поддерживать интерес к своему предмету. Известно, что примерно к 7–8-му классу у многих учащихся пропадет интерес к изучению иностранных языков. Новизна и первые успехи позади, а впереди объективные трудности изучения все более усложняющегося материала. Развивать познавательную активность учащихся и их творческие способности, расширять филологический и общеобразовательный кругозор, а также создать основу для прогрессивного взаимодействия языков и культур – всё это задачи, требующие решения на каждом уроке. Да, часто часов, отведенных нам для этого, катастрофически не хватает, также как и резервов внеклассной работы. Однако, работая учителем английского языка в общеобразовательной средней школе 8 лет, я сделала для себя вывод: мы можем и должны реализовывать социально-культурный компонент содержания образования через различные формы работы со страноведческими материалами. Нет возможности провести праздник, посвященный тому или иному событию культуры страны изучаемого языка или общешкольное мероприятие – познакомим детей с данным культурным явлением в рамках урока. Возможно, не с таким размахом, но, тем не менее, цель будет достигнута. Далее мне бы хотелось предложить примеры заданий, используемых мною на уроках в 8–9-х классах в канун Дня Святого Валентина.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February, 14th as a festival of romance and affection. People send greeting cards called “Valentines” to their sweethearts, friends and members of their families. Many valentines have romantic poems; others are humorous. But almost all of them say “Be my Valentine!” This may mean: be my friend or be my love or be my companion.
This holiday is not legal. Schools and banks are open as usual. But they are decorated with bright red paper hearts and cupids. Red is the color most often used in valentines because it is a symbol of warmth and feelings. Heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, jewelry and flowers are some popular gifts on this day.
Many newspapers carry messages placed by people in love. Both men and women want to let their sweethearts know how much they love them. Many radio stations play romantic music all day long. This is a happy day because it is specially dedicated to celebrate love, affection and friendship.
