Чтение

1. Установите соответствие между заголовками A–F и текстами 1–5. Используйте каждую букву только один раз. В задании один заголовок лишний.
A. Indian curries in all their diversity
B. Fattening Up at Fattoush
C. Spring For a New Supper
D. St. Patrick’s Day Greeneries
E. Irresistible temptation
F. Sundae, Sweet Sundae

1. It’s a piece of cake (quite literally) to argue the merits of a bakery. The smells wafting out front, along with the massive, snaking line, are testament enough to its bready, sugary goodness. And while grabbing those pastries to bring home for a lazy Sunday morning is nice, it’s even better when you can grab a muffin or a sandwich (on fresh-baked bread) and grab a bench or table to indulge right then and there. Because when the sweets come calling, making it all the way home can seem close to impossible.
2. Small plate green cuisine includes fish ‘n chips, shepherd’s pie, mini reubens and Irish whiskey cake. Three greenietinis provide a tasty alternative to green beer. The Shamrock is a glassful of Jameson, green creme de menthe and a splash of cream, garnished with a shamrock lollipop.
3. When restaurant manager Sathy Kanagasingam left Subiaco’s Bombay Garden restaurant, he set out to open an Indian restaurant that would dispel the myth of the basic Indian curry. India is a country where the cuisine is as varied as its landscape. From the magnificent beauty and harsh cold of the Kashmir Valley to the white sands and blue waters of the south-west, the cooking is distinguished by its locale, spices and foreign influences.
4. As the weather creeps toward “warm” (a relative term, to be sure), the mind starts dreaming of sandals, bike rides on the beach and the absence of that pesky seasonal depression. Make this year’s symbolic new start a literal one as well by jumpstarting your taste buds at a recently opened restaurant. From yet another sushi restaurant to the most luscious of desserts and the healthiest of eats, your biggest problem could be settling on one to try first.
5. With my blistering sweet tooth, it’s amazing that I’m not more of an ice cream type of gal. I’ll take cakes, cookies and puddings any day over a scoop of ice cream, unless it’s the homemade kind. Tragically, not too many folks have been privy to homemade ice cream, the kind where you have to put all the ingredients in a big metal bucket, load it down with ice and salt and then churn ‘til your hands practically bleed.

2. Прочитайте вопросы 1–5. Установите, в каких текстах A–F можно найти ответы на эти вопросы. Используйте каждый тест только один раз. В задании один текст лишний.
1. The building of this restaurant was transferred from another country.
2. This is the perfect place for people who don’t eat meat.
3. An ideal place for teenagers to spend the whole day.
4. You can taste typical English cuisine here.
5. Although this is a restaurant with a long history you will be pleasantly surprised by its menu.

A. Strollers Coffee Shop is housed in the Dock Museum, a spectacular modern museum built over an original Victorian dock. It offers an imaginative range of hot and cold meals and snacks with a daily specials board.
B. Drunken Duck Inn. “After four centuries of serving travelers from near and far, with a welcoming unchanging bar, an imaginative menu, and a range of real ales including our own traditional beers brewed at the Duck, we still only change for your sake and not for changes’ sake”. The heart of the Duck lies in its very popular bar, with picture walls, oak settees and log fires, and the restaurant has a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
C. Zeffirellis is an award-winning pizzeria with 4 cinemas, shopping gallery and Garden Room Restaurant. The striking and stylish interior adds to a delicious and unusual dining experience. Specialities include freshly baked wheat meal pizzas, pasta dishes and desserts using only the finest ingredients.
D. The Glass House Restaurant, Ambleside lies at the center of this most beautiful corner of England and at its culinary heart. We use the freshest local produce from the Lakeland fells and farms, and fuse classic British dishes with European menus.
E. The Log House. Come dine with us at the beautifully renovated an award winning Log House Restaurant. The fascinating history of this red roofed cabin began when it was imported from Norway to Coniston by the famous local Alfred Heaton Cooper over 100 years ago as his studio. Over the years, the log house has played many different roles prior to its current incarnation as an outstanding restaurant.
F. Stefan’s Bistro. Situated in the heart of Bowness and only five minute walk from the lake, Stefan’s Bistro overlooks the hustle of this tourist village. Offering a very different type of menu including English and continental dishes, Stefan’s also caters for the vegetarian and meat eater alike.

3. Прочитайте отрывок из рассказа “The Song and the Sergeant” и выполните задания 1–5 обводя букву a, b или c, соответствующую ответу, который вам кажется наиболее верным.
Half a dozen people supping at a table in one of the upper-Broadway all-night restaurants were making too much noise. Three times the manager walked past them with a politely warning glance; but their argument had waxed too warm to be quelled by a manager’s gaze. It was midnight, and the restaurant was filled with patrons from the theatres of that district. Some among the dispersed audiences must have recognized among the quarrelsome sextet the faces of the players belonging to the Carroll Comedy Company.
Four of the six made up the company. Another was the author of the comedietta, “A Gay Coquette,” which the quartette of layers had been presenting with fair success at several vaudeville houses in the city. The sixth at the table was a person inconsequent in the realm of art, but one at whose bidding many lobsters had perished.
Loudly the six maintained their clamorous debate. No one of the Party was silent except when answers were stormed from him by the excited ones. That was the comedian of “A Gay Coquette.” He was a young man with a face even too melancholy for his profession.
The oral warfare of four immoderate tongues was directed at Miss Clarice Carroll, the twinkling star of the small aggregation. Excepting the downcast comedian, all members of the party united in casting upon her with vehemence the blame of some momentous misfortune. Fifty times they told her: “It is your fault, Clarice – it is you alone who spoilt the scene. It is only of late that you have acted this way. At this rate the sketch will have to be taken off.”
Finally they exhausted her patience both as a woman and an artist. She sprang up like a panther, managed to smash half a dozen plates and glasses with one royal sweep of her arm, and defied her critics. They rose and wrangled more loudly. The comedian sighed and looked a trifle sadder and disinterested. The manager came tripping and suggested peace. He was told to go to the popular synonym for war so promptly that the affair might have happened at The Hague.
Thus was the manager angered. He made a sign with his hand and a waiter slipped out of the door. In twenty minutes the party of six was in a police station facing a grizzled and philosophical desk sergeant.

1. The six people at the table didn’t notice the manager’s angry looks because…
a) they were celebrating the success of their new play
b) they didn’t see well

2. This restaurant was very popular with…

b) theatre actors and actresses
c) children and their parents

3. …took an active part in the argument…
