ACT I

Setting

Grandma tucks Jenny into bed in Grandma’s guest room, which is next to Grandma’s garden.

Grandma: Let me tuck you in now, Jenny. It’s time to go to sleep.

Jenny: Okay, Grandma. Thank you for making this day so fun. I’ll see you in the morning.

(Grandma leaves the room. Jenny looks out the window.)

Jenny: (thinking aloud) Grandma’s garden looks overgrown, and there are no flowers yet. I wonder what makes it so beautiful each spring. I wonder...

(Jenny closes her eyes. About 20 seconds later her head pops up and she looks out the window again.)

Jenny: The stars are out and there is a glowing light in the garden. Who’s there?

(Jenny gets up and goes outside, exiting the other side of the stage. Three leprechauns and the five flowers enter. The flowers crouch as if they are sleeping.)

Lannie: Spring is almost here and this garden has too many weeds.

Lennie: Soon the flower fairy will come to bring color to all the new flowers.

Lonnie: We must hurry and take the weeds away.

(They begin to pull weeds.)

Lannie: Look, here comes April Showers!

(April Showers enters, carrying watering can.)

Daisy: Oh, that tickles.

Rose: The water is nice and cool.

Daffodil: I’m opening up.

Lily: I feel so good.

Petunia: It’s great to be alive!

(April Showers exits and Sunny Sunshine enters.)

Sunny: Today I will glow warmly on all the flowers everywhere, for spring is here.

(Spreads out arms and floats over each flower, then steps back to “shine.”)

(The Spring Fairy enters, carrying a wand.)

Fairy: I’m just in time to wake up the spring flowers. I will bring beautiful colors to each one.

(The Spring Fairy taps each flower with her wand. Slowly, one by one, each flower rises up to a standing position. The 3 leprechauns skip to the front of the stage; each with a paintbrush in hand.)

Lannie: Now we can go to the meadows, the trees and everywhere to paint the plants green. (All leprechauns exit, skipping.)

(Fairy turns to Jenny.)

Fairy: Jenny, I bring you a happy springtime, too. (She taps Jenny with her wand as she leads Jenny to her bed.)

ACT II

(Turns lights out. Jenny awakens in her bed. She stretches, yawns and rubs her eyes as Sunny Sunshine calls out.)

Sunny: It’s morning. Time to rise. (Turns lights on.)

Jenny: (looking out the window) Grandma’s garden looks so green and there are beautiful flowers in it. I must have slept a long time... (pauses, with a puzzled look) ... or did I?
