you? Feeling friendly? Today we are going to have an interesting time together. The theme
of today’s lesson is “The Way We Look”. Today we are going to talk about you and
about your friends. You’ll describe appearances and characters. We’ll discuss who is
friendly and honest and who is selfish. And you’ll tell us what you like to wear and
why. You’ll work in pairs, act out your dialogues, play a game and present your project.
Now look at the blackboard, please. You can see the word web. It’ll help us during the
lesson. You can use it.
2.
Teacher: So, let’s begin. When we speak about somebody’s
figure, face, hands, or feet we mean his or her appearance. When we speak about
somebody’s appearance we describe it. Today we’ll describe appearances. But first of
all let’s revise everything.
Answer the following questions:
Teacher: What can you tell about the figures of different
people?
Pupil 1: People’s bodies can be slim or stout.
Pupil 2: A person may be tall, middle-sized or short.
Teacher: What does it mean when we say “She is
middle-sized?”
Pupil 3: It means she is not very tall and not very short.
Teacher: Who is the tallest boy in your class?
Pupil 3:
Vitya is the tallest boy in our class.
Teacher: Who is the shortest girl in your class?
Pupil 3: Dasha is the shortest girl in our class.
Teacher: Are you tall enough for your age?
Pupil 3: I think I’m tall enough for my age.
Teacher:
What else can you add?
Pupil 4: A person may be thin or thick or plump.
Teacher: Is it better to be plump or thin?
Pupil 5: I think, it is better to be thin.
Teacher: Are you thin or plump?
Pupil 5: To my mind, I’m thin.
Teacher: What can you tell about the faces of different people?
Pupil 6: People’s faces can be round, oval, square or narrow.
Teacher: What do you know about people’s hair?

long or short. Its colour may be black or fair, chestnut or red.

Pupil 9: Eyes may be large or small. They may be of different
colours: grey, green, blue, black or hazel (brown).
Teacher: What colour are your eyes? What colour of eyes do you
like best?
Pupil: My eyes are black. But best of all I like dark blue eyes.
3.
Teacher: Thank you. Your answers are perfect. Now work in pairs.
Describe your best friend or someone in the class. Make up your dialogues using the words
and expressions on the topic “Appearance.” Dramatize them. You’ve got 3 minutes to
do the task. Please, act out your conversations.
Pupil 1: Hello! I’m very glad to see you!
Pupil 2: Hi! So am I! I haven’t seen you for ages. How are
you?
Pupil 1: I’m fine, thank you! And you?
Pupil 2: I’m OK. I hear, you’ve got a new girl in your
class.
Pupil 1: That’s right.
Pupil 2: I’ve heard so much about her. Tell me about her.
What’s she like?
Pupil 1: Well, she’s nice and good-looking.
Pupil 2: What does she look like?
Pupil 1: She is tall and slim. She’s got long fair hair.

Pupil 1: Lyosha, will you help me, please?
Pupil 2: With pleasure.
Pupil 1: You see, my friend Nikita is coming today, but I
can’t meet him at the station. I have a meeting after my lessons. Will you meetт him?
Pupil 2:
Sure. But I’ve never seen him.
Pupil 1: No problem. I’ll try to describe him.
Pupil 2: OK. What does he look like?
Pupil 1: He is twelve, but I think he looks older as he is
rather tall for his age.
Pupil 2: Hair?
Pupil 1: Fair and short…He has large green eyes and a straight
nose.
Pupil 2: I’m afraid it is not much. There’ll be a lot of
boys like that at the station.
Pupil 1: One more thing. Nikita has a big mole on his left
cheek.
Pupil 2: That’ll help me for sure. Go to your meeting and
I’ll meet your friend.
4.
Teacher: Nice of you. Thank you. You’ve described your friends
or classmates. And what do you look like? Now I’ll give you the cards. Describe
yourself, but don’t put down your name. Let’s collect the cards. Play a game “Who is
it?” Read the description and guess who wrote it. Can you guess who it is?
Pupil: I’m tall and rather slim. My face is round and
pleasant. My nose is short and turned up. My hair is long and fair. My eyes are large and
green. I think, this is Olga.
Teacher: Is it true or false?
Pupils: It is true.
Teacher: Please, read one more description.

2. What do they wear to school?

4. What does Jane wear to school?
5. What are her favourite clothes?
Teacher: Listen to the text very attentively.
– We don’t have a school uniform. We wear what we like. So, I wear something different
every day. Today I’m wearing my favourite clothes.
– Let me tell you about Tom’s clothes. He’s wearing black jeans, a light-blue shirt
and a brown sweater.
– What about you, Jane?
– At school we do not wear trousers, so I always wear a uniform: a white blouse with a
dark skirt. When it’s cold I put on a pullover. But my favourite clothes are jeans or
shorts and a top.
Teacher: I’m pleased with your answers. Now we will check the
written exercise. Dasha, please, comment the exercise.
Well done. Thank you. We continue. As far as I know, teenagers like to wear different
styles of clothes. What kind of clothing do you prefer? Please, answer my questions:
What do you usually wear? And why?
And what are you wearing now?
Pupil 1: I usually like to wear jeans, trainers, and a sweater.
I like them because they are comfortable and fashionable. I look brilliant in them. I’m
wearing a dark blue skirt and a light blouse now.
Pupil 2: As for me, I prefer to wear jeans, a T-shirt, and
trainers. I can wear them anywhere I like. I like to wear them all the time. Today I’m
wearing a white shirt, brown shoes and black trousers.
Teacher: Thank you. Your answers are perfect. As far as I know,
you’ve got some information to present. Please, present your project.
Pupil 1: Our project is “What are your school and favourite
clothes?”
Pupil 2: Our groupmates answered questions about their school
and favourite clothes. This is the information about clothing.
Pupil 1: You can see it in this table. (see table above)
Pupil 2: Our boys like to wear jeans, sweatshirts, trainers and
shoes. Rustam and Lyosha prefer to wear caps. And only Sasha wears suits.
Pupil 1: All our girls like to wear jeans, T-shirts, trainers
and shoes because they are comfortable and fashionable. Juliya and Ruslana prefer skirts
and blouses because they are not too casual. Polina, Katya and Dasha also like sweaters
and trousers. They like to look smart.
Teacher: Have you any questions?
Pupil 3: What do you usually wear to the disco?
Pupil 2: I often wear jeans, shoes and a top. Sometimes I wear a
dress or a skirt with a blouse.
Teacher: Thank you very much. Now it’s high time to sum up
everything we’ve done during the lesson. What have we done today?
Pupil 1: We have described our appearance and our characters.
Pupil 2: We have dramatized the dialogues.
Pupil 3: We have played the game.
Teacher: Good. What was the most interesting for you? What was
difficult?
Pupil 1: The game was interesting.
Pupil 2: The dialogue was difficult for me.
Teacher: Thank you very much for your work. Your marks: …
Good luck. Good-bye.
