The Fox and the Grapes

a) Put in the verb “to be” (“am”, “is”, “are”)
Tom and Bill come to a small hotel and take a room in which there
______ two beds. In the next room there ______ two young men, who invite Tom and Bill for
a drink. At night Tom and Bill go back to their room. It ______ dark in the corridor, and
there ______ no light in their room. By mistake they go into one bed. Soon Tom says:
“You know, Bill, I think that there ______ a man in my bed.” Bill answers, “You
know, Tom, there ______ a man in my bed, too! His feet ______ on my pillow.” “What

Конструкция с there обозначает
нахождение какого-то предмета в каком-то месте,
например: There is a table in the room. Конструкция с It
обозначает природные явления: It often rains in autumn; It is
cold here; It is five o’clock; It is morning already.

The Dog and the Bone

then he looks down into the water. He sees himself in the water, but he thinks that there
