My Northern Summer
Summer has finished – and I understood that it would be pleasant for
me to write about summer. But nothing special happened to me this summer, so I want to
talk to you about the most remarkable summer of my life. It happened about six years ago,
when I was eleven. I went to the White Sea with my mother. My mother taught at the
university at that time. There were a group of students with us who went there for work.
Certainly I only relaxed there. And it might have been boring for me – but the students
worked near the sea. So as soon as I went to their work place, I was at the sea.
Imagine yourself sitting on the beach looking into the distance and
there is only you and the sea. Nothing more. A cold northern wind is blowing in your face.
Some sea grass is swaying between stones, and it seems to you that imaginary pictures are
appearing in the water. Are you just imagining it? Oh, I think now you can understand what
I felt when I sat on a big stone and admired nature. One day, when my mother was working,
I went for a walk in the woods. There I discovered small-sized vegetation, soft moss, and
different berries.
I bathed in cool lakes: the water was very clean, soft and refreshing.
Weekends I went for walks with my mother and a group of students. Once we went for the
whole day. We found a northern deer. It was dead, but very beautiful, with a big strong
body and dense fur.
In the evening, when we were tired and hungry, we had supper. Usually
there were potatoes or cereal, with canned foods and tea with pies. These were simple
meals – but they seemed very tasty.
Of course that isn’t all that I wanted to say about this summer. But
I can’t describe all my feelings and emotions about the northern part of our country. I
hope you can imagine something which I can’t express.
