Five on a Treasure
“I’m George,” said the girl. I shall only answer if you call me
George. I hate being a girl: I don’t like doing the things that girls do. I like doing
the things that boys do. I can climb better than any boy, and swim faster too. I
can sail a boat as well as any fisherboy. You must call me George. Then
I’ll speak to you. But I shan’t if you don’t.

My Neighbour
My neighbour is a singer. He is not very famous. He plays guitar and
sings his own songs. His songs are fabulous. But his appearance is horrible. His hair is
green. He wears torn jeans. I think he wants to attract people’s attention. He wants to
make journalists write about him. He is not eccentric. He tries to look eccentric. He
affords it to become famous.
