SUMMER'S COOLING,
BACK TO SCHOOLING
Transitions, like moving from summer back to school, are difficult, but
they are also rich opportunities to move to a higher level. We’ve all enjoyed our summer
months in various ways, spending time doing things we love or things we never have time
for during the school calendar year. We might have seen family and friends, travelled or
relaxed some, and cleared our minds of the daily details of teaching and studying.
And now comes the upswing of the cycle once more. It’s time to refocus our attention on
the classroom and the students awaiting us. It’s time to gather up our vision,
experience and determination and make this our best year yet. It’s time to take a deep
breath, open our eyes and hearts, and plunge into a new, fresh and fulfilling year of
teaching. It’s time to reach for the old standbys, but also open up to the new
possibilities, new approaches, and new inspiration that your fellow professionals and we
here at English wish to bring into your classrooms.
We desire nothing more than to be by your side: in good times and at difficult moments, a
personal friend and a consultant, speaking to your interests and needs, and listening to
your great ideas and problems. Consider us your personal resource and support. We’ll do
our very best to respond to what you feel you want and need, and try to anticipate ways we
can be there for you. We’ll also try to keep abreast of and cover global developments in
English language education and professional development on our pages.
Your involvement in English is crucial. Many of you already correspond with us
regularly and we really appreciate it. More of you, we hope, will take the time to let us
know what you think and how you feel. Of course, it is nice to hear flattering words, but
maybe it is more useful to receive critiques, corrections and suggestions. We are happy to
publish your classroom victories and well-thought-out compositions. And you can be
involved in helping us promote this newspaper to your fellow-teachers and older students
and expand our circulation throughout Russia.
We have great hopes and plans for the coming school year: more special issues, great
features, and competitions! Let’s open this new school year in high spirits, together!!!
