Ход урока:
1 этап: Приветствие.
Teacher: Good afternoon, children.
Pupils: Good afternoon.
Teacher: Sit down, please. The theme of today’s lesson is “Man and the Natural World”. We are going to discuss the thesis: “Man is the destroyer, man is the creator”. Listen to the text and answer the questions to it. Read the text and make up the dialogues. Let’s begin. Your task for today was to learn new words and to prepare to give your answers: “Is Man a destroyer? Is Man a creator?”
2 этап: развитие навыков монологической речи.

Pupil 1: I thought that ancient people were “environmentally friendly” and lived in harmony with nature. Some people (such as the American Indians) did indeed respect and protect their environment. But there are many examples of ancient people who destroyed land they inhabited.
Pupil 2: I’ve read that the great city of Ur was destroyed by floods after the inhabitants had removed the trees around the headwaters of the river Euphrates to use as fuel for their fires. Although the Bible says that the cause of these floods was the anger of God, the real cause of the floods was probably environmental damage caused by man.
Pupil 3: The dodo was a large bird, rather like a turkey, that lived on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. When the first humans arrived in Mauritius in the early 16th century, they found that the dodos were quite tame. The settlers killed the dodos partly for food and partly for sport. By 1680, less than 200 years after the first human settlement on Mauritius, the last dodo was dead. Only the expression “as dead as a dodo” lives on in the English language.
Pupil 4: People are cutting down rainforests. And they control the world’s weather. They act as the lungs of the planet. Our ocean and seas are polluted. The reason is that Man uses them as dumps.
Pupil 5: True, some people cut down the forests; but some people plant and grow trees, that protect the environment. People develop new, safe technologies that don’t harm or destroy the environment.
People have made many great discoveries. People can cure many diseases. In this sense Man is a creator.
3 этап. Аудирование.
Teacher: Now you will listen to the text. Then you will answer these questions (указывая на вопросы, написанные на доске). Make sure that you know this expression: to set to work – приниматься за работу.
Let’s listen to the text twice.

Teacher: Good. You have understood the text very well. Now let’s read this story to the end to find out more about Vicki and her friends.

Teacher: Very good. You know these phrases. And now it’s time for drama. Make up and act out the dialogues between Vicki and one of her friends, between Vicki’s friends, and between Vicki and one of the picnickers.
5 этап. Развитие навыков

Vicki: Is that you, Alice? It’s me, Vicki. Our grove looks terrible. It’s piled with rubbish. I was shocked to see that.
Alice: Calm down! Have you got any ideas?
Vicki: Yes. I have an idea. We have to do something about this mess. I’d like to start our own “Clean up the Countryside” society. How do you like this idea?
Alice: I think it’s great. Let’s meet tomorrow and discuss it.
Vicki: OK. I’ll give a call to Rosie and Jane. Would you phone Cathy?
Alice: Sure. Let’s meet after classes.Alice: Hi, Cathy! It’s me, Alice. Vicki has an idea to start our own “Clean up the Countryside” society. The grove is in a terrible mess. And we are going to clear away all the rubbish that has been left by rubbish dumpers. Will you join us?
Cathy: Sure. That’s a great idea. I agree we have to clear away the mess. When and where shall we meet?
Alice: After classes. At the grove. Don’t forget to bring plastic bags for the rubbish.
Cathy: All right. I’ll be at the grove after classes.Vicki: Excuse me. What are you going to do with all this litter? Are you going to leave it here?
Picnicker: What do you mean, young lady?
Vicki: I mean that you should put all your rubbish into a plastic bag and take it away. You just can’t leave this rubbish here. You turn this beautiful place into a rubbish pile.
Picnicker: Why do you think so? I’m not going to leave these empty bottles and cans here. I enjoy spending time here and I’ll never spoil this lovely place.
Teacher: Thank you very much. You have acted your dialogues well.
6 этап. Подведение итогов урока путем тестирования.
Teacher: Now you will write a test on our lesson today.
Каждому ученику раздается тест, который включает в себя задания, отражающие работу на уроке. После выполнения работы учащимся предлагается обменяться тестами и на доске даются правильные ответы и параметры выставления оценок. Учащиеся получают оценку за урок.
